Laser Treatments

Laser treatments are used to reduce the appearance of mild-to-moderate facial wrinkles, improve skin tone and texture, diminish skin discolorations and some types of acne scarring. Lasers use a thin, targeted beam of light to remove or resurface areas of the skin. Because lasers can be precisely targeted, very small areas of the face or body can be treated without damaging adjacent areas. Dr. Heinrich will consider your age, skin color and the extent of your skin damage to determine which skin laser method is best for you.

Pacific Coast Cosmetic offers the latest in laser treatments including CO2 Resurfacing, Fraxel, IPL, Omnilux, Photodynamic Therapy, PicoSure Focus, and Tattoo Removal.

Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a special procedure that combines a light-sensitive drug with a laser to effectively remove abnormal or precancerous cells on the skin. The medication used is a photosensitizing agent, called levulinic acid. This medication is applied to the area that is being treated and it is preferentially absorbed by the “bad” cells or the metabolically active cells. The precancerous cells are more active than healthy cells, so they absorb the Levulan and become more photosensitive.

This light/laser energy causes the Levulan medication to react and form a special kind of oxygen molecule that destroys the cells. So, in effect, you target the abnormal cells and induce cell death (apoptosis) so they do not have the chance to evolve into a true skin cancer cell.

One of the great things people don’t understand about PDT is that it treats a broad area, unlike liquid nitrogen, so you can treat an entire face or arm so even the invisible, microscopic cell damage is treated.

Fraxel Skin Resurfacing

Fraxel Skin Resurfacing can be used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration caused by sun damage, as well as to treat acne scars. Consider the Fraxel treatment a mini overhaul to brighten and replenish dull, blotchy skin. It is one of the most popular laser procedures because we can manipulate the energy and nourish the skin simultaneously to achieve a unique rejuvenation procedure.

The Fraxel Laser System will penetrate your skin using multiple laser beams, which can reduce skin imperfections and promote collagen regeneration. By creating tiny micro-wounds spaced apart in your skin, new collagen is formed, and a more youthful complexion is revealed. In addition, the heat targets brown spots and blotchy areas to erase imperfections to achieve a radiant glow.

CO2

If you’re looking for a lasting, complete overhaul of your skin, CO2 resurfacing may be the right choice for you. It can rejuvenate the texture and tone of your skin and improve wrinkles and laxity. Whether you have fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, or discoloration, CO2 resurfacing can offer a significant improvement after one treatment. After receiving a CO2 treatment, you will obtain total skin rejuvenation, and it can erase decades of sun damage, pigmentation, and lines. The CO2 Laser penetrates the skin using multiple laser beams, which erase skin imperfections and promote deep collagen regeneration.

IPL

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy delivers an intense but gentle burst of light into targeted areas of the skin. The treated area absorbs the light safely treating the condition and improving the appearance of the skin. You will notice some benefits of an IPL treatment after just one treatment. However, the best results are usually seen after 3-5 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, also known as a photofacial, is a way to improve the color and texture of your skin without surgery. It can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure — called photoaging. You may notice it mostly on your face, neck, hands, or chest. IPL may help if you have red, brown, or splotchy skin because of a health condition.

Omnilux

LED (Light Emitting Diode) devices are well established in clinical anti-aging and skin-care therapy, as well as in the treatment of a wide variety of skin conditions. Omnilux™ Professional LED devices are the gold-standard medical technology used by dermatologists and aestheticians world over because of their ability to promote skin recovery and healing. Omnilux products combine clinically proven wavelengths of light with optimized energy levels in a process called LED phototherapy.

Omnilux blue™
Transmits blue light (415nm) for the treatment of acne vulgaris and sun damage. Its versatility also allows it to be used to activate the photosensitizer. Aminolevulinic acid in the treatment of superficial actinic keratosis

Omnilux revive2™
Transmits red light (633nm) for a variety of applications including skin rejuvenation/wrinkle reduction, acne (anti-inflammatory), dyschromia of the skin such as pigmentation and rosacea, and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for the treatment of certain non-melanoma skin cancers. Omnilux revive2 has both a rejuvenating and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. Proven to increase cellular energy (ATP) which in turn “kick starts” cellular renewal. Highly absorbed by fibroblasts increasing the synthesis of collagen it has also been proven to stimulate blood circulation and lymphatic flow to eliminate toxins, accelerate healing, and calm the skin.

Omnilux plus™
Transmits infra-red light (830nm) and is the most deeply penetrating wavelength, working indirectly through cell membrane absorption to stimulate complex cellular processes that result in increased collagen, elastin and growth factor production to treat the visible signs of photodamage and stimulate cellular repair mechanisms essential in the wound healing process.

PicoSure Focus

This laser delivers ultra-short pulses of energy to the skin in trillionths of a second also known as a “picosecond”, to gently target and eliminate pigment without harming surrounding skin. PicoSure’s advanced technology makes beautiful skin possible with little to no downtime.

PicoSure Focus is unique in that it can produce results like ablative lasers, without pre-treatment and a lengthy recovery. Immediately after treatment, patients have short-lived redness and minimal swelling, allowing for a quick return to work.

PicoSure is a non-surgical, non-invasive (non-ablative) laser skin treatment that works on skin concerns such as age spots, freckles, sun damage, pigmented lesions, fine lines and wrinkles, or acne scars.
